Project Description: IRD has supplied,
designed, supervised installation and commissioned two automated
Single Load Cell Medium Speed WIM sorting systems, including Slow
Speed WIM scale technology for citation issuance in 1999 and 2003.
These systems have set the operational standard for future weight
enforcement systems in Brazil.
The Nova Dutra Weigh Station Systems consist of two weigh
stations with selective and precision scales. The precision scales
are used for the purposes of weight enforcement. In addition,
mainline sensors are installed on the main highway adjacent to each
weigh station to detect violators attempting to evade the weigh
station. Each Weigh Station System will sort vehicles based on their
weight compliance, and assist the operators in selecting vehicles
for random safety inspections. If a vehicle is not in violation and
is not selected for a random safety inspection, it can proceed
through the Weigh Station with a minimum of delay. The vehicle's
weights are determined by Weigh-In-Motion technology. The overall
station control and operation is provided by "point-and-click" user
display screens provided on four Windows NT machines.
A video camera is located following the Slow Speed Scale. The
image of each vehicle passing over the SSWIM is captured by a
Windows NT PC and stored in a file. The file name of the file
containing the image is stored in the Oracle Database with the
appropriate vehicle record so the vehicle data can be matched with
the vehicle image.
